Robson to Receive Freedom of Ipswich Thursday, 10th Apr 2008 14:08 Sir Bobby Robson will receive the freedom of Ipswich when he returns to Suffolk for the 30th anniversary of the Blues 1978 FA Cup final win on May 5th. The ceremony will take place on the balcony of the Town Hall after the winning side complete a bus tour of the town. Ipswich Borough Council chief executive James Hehir says Robson fully deserves the honour: Sir Bobby has been a tremendous ambassador for Ipswich and for football ever since he came to Portman Road. His success here in Ipswich and, later for England, proves he is a man of great stature. ....
Posted on Bury Town’s players have returned to training following the lifting of the restrictions for outdoor team sport, and the Blues will take part in 3 friendly matches in April as part of early preparations for next season. The season was officially curtained recently, but manager Ben Chenery says he is already looking ahead to next season after a promising campaign was cut short following a successful FA Cup run and an unbeaten start to the League season. In a statement posted on the clubs website, Chenery said “I hope that all our supporters and sponsors are keeping well. It was a great disappointment that our season was suspended and then declared finished, but this was realistically the only option given the restrictions and timescales. ....
Reserves at Southend Monday, 5th Feb 2007 12:07 Released academy defender Luke Webster will be in action against his old team-mates today when Town s second string travel to Southend (Roots Hall, KO 2pm). Last month TWTD reported that Webster would not be offered a professional contract by the Blues. The 18-year-old is now with the Shrimpers trying to win himself a deal with Steve Tilson s club. Former Canary Spencer Prior is also in the Southend squad. Town have named Shane Supple, George O Callaghan, Darren Currie, Sito and Matt Richards in their side for a game which was originally scheduled for tomorrow. The Blues plan to use O Callaghan up front, perhaps a hint that the Irishman may be used in attack for the first team due during Alan Lee s impending absence through suspension. The former Cork City player has a good chance of leading the frontline at Watford in the FA Cup with Jon Walters unavailable through suspension. ....
