DAVENPORT, Iowa — Davenport City Council members officially decided on a $43 million spending plan comprised of mostly federal Covid-relief funds. The council met on Wednesday, July 28, to vote on the 18-item plan. It passed on a 9-1 vote, with Fourth Ward Alderman Raymond Ambrose being the one dissenter. 
Overall, the West Locust Sewer Project won the largest chunk of money. With the $14 million its now been allocated - over a third of the ARP budget - the council is hopeful that project can officially be finished. The second largest allocation was $6 million to the new Main Street Landing "Adventure Play & Event Lawn."

Aurora voters approved a $7.7 million bond during the election on Tuesday, April 6. According to election results found on the Lawrence County Clerk’s webpage, the measure passed with 381 votes in favor, or 76.51-percent, and 117 votes against, or 23.49-percent. The Record reported on March 31 that the bond, if passed, would “be used to secure entryways and make security improvements at Robinson Elementary and Aurora Junior High School, build severe weather storm-hardened shelters and make renovations and utility efficiency upgrades at all of the district’s facilities.” The bond is expected to be paid off over 20 years. Aurora voters also approved Road Proposition One, with 379 votes in favor, or 82.03-percent, and 83 votes opposed, or 17.97-percent.

LONG BEACH, Miss. (WLOX) - Mississippi’s April primaries are coming up, and Long Beach candidates had the opportunity to state their cases Saturday as a crowd watched the political debate.
Candidates spoke to the crowd in the Harper McCaughan Town Green.
This year, there are no democratic or independent candidates running, and only three of the six wards are running unopposed.
Candidates covered topics such as business development, casinos, and drainage.

Municipal elections see many new faces


Qualifying for municipal elections in the City of Fulton has heated up with every official seat having new faces in the race.
For Ward 1 alderman, Daisy Stone, has qualified as a Democrat. Hayward Wilson currently holds the seat, but has not qualified to date. Ward 2 currently has three Republican contenders vying for the position, Drew Gough, Martin Richardson, and Sharon Russell. Michael Nanney has not yet qualified to seek the position again. Also running on the Republican ticket for Ward 3 is Cory Shotts, Matt Moore, and Russ Ramey. Joey Steele currently holds the Ward’s position as alderman, but has not qualified to date.

JOHNSON COUNTY CLERK ANNOUNCES FILINGS ON FIRST DAY FOR MUNICIPAL ELECTION


Filing for candidates in the Municipal Election began being accepted at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, December 15.
A news release from Johnson County Clerk Diane Thompson says Larry Purcell filed for the one five-year seat on the Western Missouri Medical Center Board of Trustees.
Three four-year spots are open for the Johnson County Community Health Board, and eight persons filed to run: Iris A. McQuain; Donna J. Stewart; James Williams; Noah Harness; Megan Jaegar; Justin Johnston; Corky Burgin; and Rick Edwards.
Ernie Wilson also filed to run for a two-year term as Alderman At Large in Chilhowee.
However, nobody filed on the first day for Johnson County Ambulance District Board seats- Sub-District 1 for a three-year term or Sub-District 4 for a three-year term; the Southeast Sewer District Supervisor, a five-year term; one trustee for a five-year term for the Blackwater Reorganized Common Sewer District Board; or for the City of Centerview two Aldermen At Large two-year terms (the Centerview City Clerk will take filings by appointment).
