The Alberta court system continues to move forward with charges against Interior Health s former chief medical health officer.
Dr. Albert Stefanus de Villiers, who was until June the health authority s top doctor, has had his preliminary hearing for the charges of sexual assault and sexual interference scheduled for 9:30 a.m. April 12, 2022, in a Grande Prairie, Alta, provincial courtroom.
The charges of sexual assault and sexual interference, according to court documents, are for events that allegedly took place between June 15, 2018, and July 31, 2020, near Grande Prairie.
Information on the charge alleges that de Villiers unlawfully committed a sexual assault upon the victim between those dates and the interference charge alleges that de Villiers “did for a sexual purpose, unlawfully touch, directly or indirectly, with a part of the body or with an object, a part of ....

To date, there have been 70 cases of COVID variants of concern in the Interior Health region but, eventually, all cases are likely to be variants, according to Interior Health’s chief medical health officer Dr. Albert de Villiers.
“From what we’ve heard from the United Kingdom and other countries is, eventually the variants will take over,” he said during a news briefing today, April 1. “It will be more than the regular COVID.”
He noted the original COVID-19 was the Wuhan variant in China but that’s not what’s been predominant in Canada. ....

All residents and staff at long-term care homes in the Interior Health region will be offered a COVID-19 vaccine by the end of next week.
That may cut down on the number of outbreaks in those facilities but the virus is spreading like a wildfire from the Central Okanagan to the north and northwest, Dr. Albert de Villiers, the Interior Health region’s chief medical health officer, said today, Jan. 19, during a news conference.
“Maybe you can compare it to a wildfire where lots of the bush has already burned in the Central Okanagan, unfortunately, but in some of the other areas we haven’t seen a lot of fire yet so there’s a lot of kindling still out there. There are still a lot of people who haven’t been exposed, Dr. de Villiers said. ....
