The Dunoon Dam has twice been rejected by Rous County Council as an option to secure future water supply for the Northern Rivers, so why does it remain a topic of heated debate?
Lismore City Council heard a motion at its meeting this week, requesting the council support the dam being put back on the table for consideration.
The motion was not successful, with five of eight councillors voting against it, but there remains a push from some sectors to see the dam reinstated to the Future Water Project 2060.
In December, the water authority for the region, Rous County Council, voted to exclude the Dunoon Dam as an option, electing to change the focus of the plan to other options – such as upgrading Marom Creek Water Treatment Plant and the use of new underground water from the Alstonville area for the first 10 years, to develop technology to allow for direct and indirect potable reuse of water. ....

Elderly residents left traumatised by road rage

Calls for road safety upgrades on an Alstonville road have been put before Ballina Shire Council following claims elderly pedestrians are being verbally abused and traumatised by speeding motorists.
The concerns for Adventist Senior Living Centre residents have been raised in the council s agenda this Wednesday, with councillors and residents alike calling for changes following serious reports.
According to Adventist Senior Living Centre manager Andrew Tucker, the 60km/h zone is regularly flouted by drivers along the Pearces Creek Rd and Lismore Rd/Bugden Ave stretch, making it difficult for residents to cross.
Recently one of the residents from the independent Living Village was returning from the Alstonville township along the pathway in their Mobility Scooter, he said. ....

Your story identifies another major flaw in the already shambolic vaccine rollout scheme (“Clinics say sorry after patients told they could forfeit doses”, April 8). It is all very well for GPs to be texting their own patients and placing them on waitlists but where does that leave people whose GPs are not COVID vaccination hubs? There is no clinic in my area offering vaccines to the general public. Calls to out-of-area clinics have proved fruitless. ....
