New Drone Surveillance System to be Deployed on Canadian Coast Guard Vessels in Trials Funded by DRDC - sUAS News

10 February 2021
Ottawa, CA: Kongsberg Geospatial announced today that it has been selected by Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) to conduct trials of a new long-endurance UAV surveillance system for the Canadian Coast Guard. The MartinUAV V-BAT aircraft was selected to provide the unique ability to combine take off and landing from the small confines aboard ship with the long endurance of a fixed-wing aircraft while carrying multiple sensors.
Combining a unique Vertical Take-off aircraft and new sensor data PED solution allows for rapid collection and analysis of sensor data
The aircraft will communicate with the Kongsberg Geospatial sensor data management system, called MIDAS, which allows a range of sensor data, including full-motion video from unmanned systems to be processed and exploited in near real-time by analysts on board Canadian Coast Guard ships. MIDAS provides the capability to compare historical and live data from the mission area, and to ex ....

Artist’s concept of LongShot UAV
The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has launched LongShot program that aims to develop an air-launched unmanned air vehicle (UAV) with the ability to employ multiple air-to-air weapons.
DARPA has has awarded contracts to General Atomics, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman for preliminary Phase I design work. The objective is to develop a novel UAV that can significantly extend engagement ranges, increase mission effectiveness, and reduce the risk to manned aircraft.
Current air superiority concepts rely on advanced manned fighter aircraft to provide a penetrating counter air capability to effectively deliver weapons. It is envisioned that LongShot will increase the survivability of manned platforms by allowing them to be at standoff ranges far away from enemy threats, while an air-launched LongShot UAV efficiently clo ....

The Sea Hunter, an experimental unmanned submarine-hunter.
WASHINGTON: In planning am ambitious new fleet of hundreds of unmanned ships, the Navy’s top admiral is looking to avoid the developmental issues that have plagued the service’s long-troubled Littoral Combat Ship.
Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Gilday told Breaking Defense he’s looking to chart a course that explicitly spells out what kind of capabilities the ships should have, how much commonality different designs will feature, and ensuring trust in tested technologies, as opposed to the unproven gear that was slapped on the LCS, leading to years of headaches and far fewer capabilities than were expected. ....

9 February 2021
One of the Indian Defence units procures a few sets of multi rotor drones from Johnnette Technologies, an Indian Drone manufacturer.
Indian brands have been following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘vocal for local’ or localisation vision for a while now. Emphasising on a self-reliant, or ‘aatmanirbhar’, India, the government has asked that products not just be made in India, but also for the promotion of local brands, manufacturing, and supply chain.
Against the backdrop of the aggression at Indian Borders, a range of modern armaments are being procured to enhance the capabilities of India’s armed forces. There is also a thrust on achieving self-reliance in the defence sector. A unit of the Indian Armed Forces procured a few sets of multi-rotor drones from Johnnette Technologies, an Indian Drone manufacturer for specific use cases.
