The housebuilder secured a unanimous ‘in favour’ vote after seeking reserved matters approval for the 220-home second phase of the Ashfield Road South scheme.
Allerdale’s development panel met on 16 March to review the proposal, which was presented by Gleeson’s land director David Wright.
With outline consent already secured, the reserved matters application followed the completion of a 35-home first phase.
All 11 members of the panel present voted in favour. Cllr Elaine Lynch welcoming the provision of open space and describing the proposal as “a very good development: it’s important we look to the future with developments specifically aimed at first-time buyers”. ....

Second phase of major Workington housing development set for go-ahead
The second stage of a major housing development in Workington could be on the horizon.
Housing developer Gleeson Homes is seeking the go-ahead for reserved matters relating to phase two of a major housing development on land at Ashfield Road South in Workington.
The developer, which specialises in building low-cost homes, intends to build more than 200 new homes in addition to the 35 already built on the site by developer Mandale Homes.
A section 106 legal agreement had been put in place for the site in 2017, requiring that the development of the site be approached in a phased manner. ....
