A LARGE new store can be built in the South Downs National Park despite local objections. George Rees wants to build a third building next to two stores that were previously grain stores, off Stakes Lane, near Upham. Objectors said it was out of keeping with the national park and had no need to be in the countryside. There were 35 objections and four letters of support, the city council planning committee was told. Objectors Libby Cleaver, of Ashton Close, Bishop s Waltham, told the committee last Thursday: It is a disproportionate expansion of existing premises to the detriment of the landscape character. This activity does not need a rural location. It does not support farm diversification. There are noire sustainable sites for storage and distribution than such a sensitive location .

A FRUSTRATED mum from Redditch says she is still waiting for repairs to be made to her home months after calling the council. Ms Lewis, aged 26, lives in a property at Ashton Close in Headless Cross with her partner and three children - aged three, six and 11. The annoyed tenant says there is multiple issues with the property, including a hole in the roof, which leaks water into a bedroom, and collapsed floorboards. Ms Lewis says the home also has issues with a leaking water pump that has come loose from the wall, and a shed which still has a leaking roof following repairs. She says these issues were reported to the council in December 2020.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers? We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions. What should we do with our second vote in 2021? What happens if Westminster says no to indyref2? Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversation, register under fake names, and post vile abuse. We’ve had hundreds of emails from you complaining about this, asking us to take steps to ensure that these people aren’t given a platform on our site.
