Australian workers to be $7000 better off under a simple change in tonight's pandemic Budget

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has scrapped the $450 monthly threshold before workers receive superannuation from their employer.
This will improve economic security in retirement for around 200,000 women, he told Parliament.
Our plan will also make it easier for Australians to prepare for retirement and to be more secure once in retirement.
A simple change in tonight s Budget could see workers in their thirties have an extra $7,000 in retirement savings by the time they turn 40. Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has scrapped the $450 monthly threshold before workers receive superannuation from their employer
From July 1 next year, the $450 per month threshold for compulsory superannuation will be removed, meaning employers will have to pay super to low paid workers, such as part-time staff and casuals. ....

Australians to be $7000 better off under Budget 2021-22

Ten million Australians will get a big tax cut worth up to $1,080 as part of a federal budget designed to cement the nation s rapid recovery from last year s Covid-induced recession.
But the sweetener comes alongside grim news that overseas holidays will be off the cards until mid-2022 except for travel bubbles with safe countries such as New Zealand as the deadly disease continues to ravage the world.
The budget s flagship policy is an extension of the lower and middle-income tax offset – which gives Aussies who earn less than $126,000 a big boost when they submit their tax returns.
Australians earning between $48,000 and $90,000 will get the maximum amount of $1,080 while those earning between $37,000 and $48,000 and between $90,000 and $126,000 will get a smaller amount depending on their salary. ....

The city where even 40% of high income earners CAN'T afford a house

Australian real estate is now so expensive that 40 per cent of high-income couples can t even afford to buy a house in one capital city.
Sydney s median price for a home with a backyard rose by another 2.8 per cent in April to a new record high of $1.147million, forcing potential buyers to move further away from the city centre.
The city s weekend auction clearance rate stood at 82.6 per cent, a dramatic rise from 66.3 per cent a year ago during the latter stages of the Covid lockdowns.
Property values are now so dear in Australia s biggest city that many couples earning $143,500 a year would be unable to service the mortgage repayments for an ordinary house in the suburbs. ....

Almost two-thirds of Australians think Covid vaccine rollout is not going well, survey suggests

The ANU longitudinal study of 3,286 adults found only 3.6% of Australians thought the vaccine rollout was going very well, with a further 32.7% saying it was going somewhat well.
More than 42% responded that the rollout is going “not too well” and 21.2% said it is “not going at all well”.
Report co-author, Nicholas Biddle, said that those intending to vote for a party other than the Coalition were “less likely to think the process was going well”.
Almost half of voters who intended to vote for the Coalition said the vaccine rollout was going well, declining to 30% of those who would vote for Labor and 27% of those voting for the Greens. ....
