Jury trials to resume in May, 'Super-spreader' event details outlined by MCHD officials | News, Sports, Jobs


MARQUETTE The Marquette County court system has announced plans to resume jury trials.
The courts received approval from the state court administrative officer and the Marquette County Health Department to move forward with jury trials in May. Each court will address cases individually with involved parties and counsel.
Effective immediately, the courts will institute a hybrid approach to court hearings. While technology still will be used, the local decrease in COVID-19 cases makes it possible to accommodate some in-person proceedings, officials said.
For all case types, parties and attorneys will be permitted to appear in person but are not required to unless directed by the presiding judge or referee. The individual courts will develop rules about which cases require in-person attendance and will specifically address those cases. ....

MARQUETTE Public Health, Delta & Menominee Counties is temporarily pausing scheduling for COVID-19 vaccine clinics for individuals age 65 and older because of a statewide vaccine shortage.
PHDM announced on Monday that it, as well as other local health department and health system partners, were notified that requests for vaccine in Michigan surpassed federal allocations for the upcoming week by more than 210,000 doses.
It said vaccination partners in the state requested 270,000 doses while the total vaccine allocation to Michigan for the week was 50,000 doses. ....

MARQUETTE Dickinson County Healthcare System in Iron Mountain announced on Facebook that intensive care unit nurse Pam Faccio received the first COVID-19 vaccine in the county on Thursday.
Dr. Donald Kube, chief of staff, and Dr. Charles Papp, an emergency medicine physician, also were given the vaccine that day.
Aspirus Health on Thursday announced it received its first allocation of vaccine and has started vaccinating its employees. Aspirus’ first shipment of vaccine was delivered to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium.
Aspirus officials noted it did not receive enough doses for all the employees who wish to be vaccinated, explaining it is following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to provide the vaccine first to employees at the greatest risk, such as those regularly providing care to patients with COVID-19. ....
