The past year living in a pandemic has been especially challenging for health-care and frontline workers.
This has been a gruelling, scary year during which our staff and physicians worried for their own safety and that of their families, says Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) President and CEO Janice Skot.
The Barrie hospital s president recalls one year ago when the World Health Organization declared a global pandemic.
In those early days, directives and guidelines changed constantly as the world learned more about the novel coronavirus.
It was uncharted territory, and hospitals had to shift direction on a dime. The uncertainty was overwhelming as we tried to imagine the pandemic s path, Skot says. ....

HPEPH reporting no new cases, as Ontario announces extension to stay-at-home order

Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is reporting no new cases for the third time in four days.
Staff note that two people have recovered since their last update on Sunday.
There are now a total of 18 active cases in the region. The seven-day case rate per 100,000 is now 5.3.
Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington Public Health is also reporting no new cases today. Staff say the region now has a total of 16 active cases.
Staff from that health unit did announce today, that the first case of the UK variant has been detected in Kingston.
Dr. Kieran Moore, Medical Officer of Health, says that anyone in these categories, should get a COVID-19 test regardless is they have symptoms or not. ....
