Teenager dies in vehicle rollover in Crawford County
Staff report
CONNEAUTVILLE A 13-year-old male died Monday evening after a utility terrain vehicle rolled over on a dirt road in Crawford County.
The victim was one of three people riding the UTV on Steamburg Road in Conneaut Township, Pennsylvania State Police said.
At around 7:30 p.m., the UTV lost control after exiting a curve along the dirt road, police said. The UTV rolled over twice and ejected the victim from the middle seat. He later died at UPMC Hamot, police said.
Both the 17-year-old female driver and the other passenger, a 14-year-old female, suffered minor to moderate injuries. They were taken to UPMC Hamot for treatment, according to police.
She s led the International Institute of Erie for nearly a decade and now Dylanna Grasinger is vying to be Erie s next county executive.
Grasinger on Friday announced that she will seek the Democratic nomination for county executive in the May 18 primary, in hopes of succeeding incumbent Democrat Kathy Dahlkemper, who is not seeking a third term. Erie County needs to have a more cohesive vision for the region, she said. I think that protecting human service funding, particularly given my background, and increasingly community-based mental health funding is extremely important. I also recognize there s a need to grow our labor force by creating more economic development opportunities, particularly for small businesses, coming out of the pandemic. Given my experience leading in the community it s a good fit, and I just want to be able to be effective and do some good for the largest number of residents that I can.
Construction of the county s third roundabout, in Summit Township, might be delayed.
And until construction in Springfield begins, drivers once again are blazing new trails to work and to school in Albion about six miles to the south.
Back roads are taking a beating
The latest detours aren t costing drivers much additional time, but they are taking a toll on local roads. We re tearing some of these roads up. We re beating them to death, said Glen Black, Northwestern School District s bus garage manager. They were not intended for a lot of traffic.
Six of the district s 24 bus routes have been re-routed because of the demise of the Route 215 bridge. Most buses on those routes now are using the McKee Road bridge over the interstate about 1½ miles to the west. They re also driving Stoker Road between Route 215 and McKee.

The Ohio House and Senate passed S.B. 310, the stateâs 2021 capital budget late last week, and the bill includes $3.45 million for a number of projects in Ashtabula County.
âI am overjoyed with the capital funds that will be allocated for Ashtabula County by the passage of SB 310,â said State Rep. John Patterson (D-Jefferson), in a statement announcing the projects.
The single largest amount of money, $850,000, will pay for marina improvements in Conneaut, according to the bill. Recently, Conneaut Port Authority Chairman George Peterson described a new transient marina facility to Conneaut City Council.
The Ashtabula County Metroparks will receive $750,000 from the bill, divided up among three projects. The largest amount of money will go to the Pymatuning Valley Greenway Trail, according to the bill. The money will be used to move the trail project forward, said Metroparks Office Administrator Antoinette Green.
