Indian Premier League (IPL), the world s richest Twenty20 cricket tournament, was postponed for safety reasons on Tuesday as India battles a massive surge in coronavirus cases.
The Indian Premier League Governing Council and Board of Control for Cricket in India in an emergency meeting has unanimously decided to postpone [the] IPL 2021 season, with immediate effect, organisers said in a statement.
The BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organising the IPL. This decision was taken keeping the safety, health and well-being of all the stakeholders in mind, it said. ....

New Delhi, May 4 : The Indian Premier League s (IPL) 2021 season has been postponed, said the Indian cricket board (BCCI) on Tuesday. The decision was made after more Covid-19 positive cases emerged in the IPL bio-bubble following those on Monday.
The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in an emergency meeting has unanimously decided to postpone IPL 2021 season, with immediate effect, said a statement from the BCCI.
The BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organising the IPL. This decision was taken keeping the safety, health and wellbeing of all the stakeholders in mind, the statement added. ....

Australian cricket players plunged into Covid-19 isolation as Indian Premier League is called off


Australia’s superstar cricketers face an uncertain future in India as the lucrative IPL is suspended and multiple players test positive to Covid-19 - with another 9000 Aussies trapped in the virus-ravaged nation. 
Even more of Australia s top cricketers in India were forced into isolation on Tuesday after a third IPL player tested positive for the virus.
The IPL has now announced the immediate indefinite suspension of the big-money tournament featuring many of the world s best players, acknowledging that if the seven-week competition were to continue it may put lives at stake .  
Organisers released a statement saying the IPL would work with player s home nations to get them home safely, but Australia has a total ban on flights from the nation - and has even threatened citizens with five years in prison if they return. ....

IPL cricket tournament suspended amid worsening Covid crisis in India


A statement on the IPL website on Tuesday morning confirmed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had voted to postpone the league indefinitely after cases were detected in staff and players from the Kolkata Knight Riders, the Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
“The BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organising the IPL. This decision was taken keeping the safety, health and wellbeing of all the stakeholders in mind,” they said.
While the announcement was only to suspend the league which still has a month of matches left, it is widely considered unlikely to be able to resume at all this season. ....
