Click It or Ticket is used to highlight the importance of wearing a seatbelt.
Officers will write citations and conduct high-visibility patrols. Under Indiana law, police can stop and cite drivers and passengers just for failing to wear a seatbelt.
We spoke with Indiana State Police Sergeant Matt Ames. He told us you are responsible for making sure anyone under 16 in your car is buckled up.
The Click It or Ticket campaign runs through June 6.

How a new law may increase overweight trucks in Indiana

The new transporting weight of 120 thousand pounds is the combination of both truck and cargo.
According to Scott Manning, Director of Strategic Communications for the Indiana Department of Transportation, one of the agency’s biggest concerns with this law was possible road damage.
Trucks wanting to haul overweight divisible loads will be required additional axle components to balance the weight evenly.
“Equally distributing the weight is really to making sure you don’t put too much stress on a single axle load. When driving on pavements or roads, that helps make sure we don’t sustain damage,” Manning said.
If a truck were to exceed the weight allowed on a road, it would be required to find an alternate route. ....

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) As the Wabash Valley prepares for the biggest snowfall it s seen in nearly six years, dispatchers say they re ready for calls they re about to receive. However, they do stress the importance of knowing when it s appropriate to call.
According to Rob Gambill, director of the Clay County Emergency Management, they see a lot of accident related calls.
We have accidents that are caused by overconfidence of the vehicle, people have a lot of four wheel drive and all wheel drive vehicles. But, they have to understand they are not impervious to the elements or damages, Gambill said. ....

Trouble at U.S 40 and Darwin Road Intersection

A particular intersection in West Terre Haute is giving truckers trouble.

WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind (WTHI) - Friday a semi fell into the ditch at the intersection of U.S. Highway 40 and Darwin road.
The intersection is at the bottom of a hill and has a steep ditch.
This is not the first time that a semi has crashed at this intersection, but Indiana State Police are working to make sure it is the last.
We have reached out to the Indiana Department of Transportation in an effort to get signs that warn drivers about the sharp turn, said Indiana State Police Sergeant Matt Ames. ....
