Maldives reported 120 new coronavirus infections on Friday, as well as two more deaths.
Out of the 120 additional new cases confirmed from the 2,751 samples tested within 24 hours, 99 cases corresponded to those who had tested positive from the capital of Male City. Eight cases were reported from inhabited islands across the country, 10 from operational resorts and three cases from liveaboard vessels.
With this, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) s latest statistics place the Maldives total Covid-19 tally at 17,507 with 453,895 samples having been tested by authorities for the infection thus far. The country has seen 15,142 recoveries thus far. ....

The Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Sunday, revealed that more than 9,700 individuals were inoculated till date as part of Maldives ongoing COVID-19 vaccination programme.
As the government officially commenced its vaccine roll-out on February 1, the aforementioned figure represents the number of people authorities were successfully able to vaccinate within the first week of the programme.
At present, vaccines are being administered from six health facilities in the Greater Male Region as well as 14 regions outside the capital. The designated locations in the capital consist of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), ADK Hospital, Treetop Hospital, Hulhumale’ ....

Covid-19 cases are quickly spiking in the Maldives, as authorities increase sample testing.
While 105 new cases were reported on Sunday from the 2,600 samples tested, a total of 215 cases were announced on Monday from the 4,126 samples tested within 24 hours.
Most of the cases were detected from the country’s Covid-19 epicenter, capital Male’ City. Further, eight cases were detected from residential islands, one from a liveaboard vessel, 20 from operational resorts and 27 from non-operational resorts.
Monday’s 215 cases have pushed the Maldives’ coronavirus tally to 16,056. Further, with an additional 51 recoveries recorded, a total of 14,190 patients have recovered from the virus. There have been 52 deaths, mostly locals. ....

The Cholera outbreak of 1978 was one of the most harrowing national crises for the Maldives in recent years. In that year, Cholera swept through over a hundred islands from the north to the south of the country, leaving no atoll untouched by fear and devastation. MALE, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) The Maldives will vaccinate its population against the COVID-19 pandemic within six months, President Ibrahim Solih said here Monday.
The Maldives COVID-19 Dhifaau campaign to vaccinate its population against the coronavirus epidemic began on Monday and will be completed within six months, Solih said.
The island country s population is estimated at about 540,000 people currently.
Speaking at the Maldives Center for Social Education (MCSE), Solih said that public adherence to government s health guidelines and their support for the vaccination program was critical to overcoming the pandemic. ....
