Provincial government funds Napanee-area stewardship projects

NAPANEE A turtle habitat near Cloyne is one of two sites that are to share a three-year, $522,000 grant from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment.
The funding, announced Wednesday, also included Greater Napanee as one of seven locations across Ontario to be included in Wildlife Preservation Canada’s recovery strategy for the eastern loggerhead shrike.

The provincial government committed close to $270,000 over three years for the strategy.

Nearly $2-Million To Be Invested Into HN Through Species At Risk Program

13 local projects are getting provincial funding through the Species at Risk Stewardship Program.
The Ontario government is investing up to $4.5 million to help protect and recover plants and animals that are in danger of disappearing in the province.
This includes nearly $1.9 million in Haldimand-Norfolk over the next few years.
ALUS Canada is the largest of the recipients locally, receiving $750,000 in multi-year support.
This money will be used to work with farmers and local community partners to create, enhance, restore and manage on-the-ground habitat conservation projects.
Birds Canada also received multi-year funding for three separate initiatives. ....

Over $870,000 Going To Local Projects To Protect At-Risk Species


Three projects in Hastings-Lennox and Addington counties are receiving a big boost from the provincial government. 
On Wednesday, the Ontario government announced it is investing up to $4.5 million to help protect and recover plants and animals in danger of disappearing in the province.
The funding will be given to non-profit organizations, Indigenous communities and other groups through the Species at Risk Stewardship Program for projects that help preserve at risk species and their habitats.

Projects in Hastings-Lennox and Addington getting grants to protect species at risk


The province has approved more than 80 projects for funding through its ‘Species at Risk Stewardship Program’.
In total, $4.5 million is being spent to help protect and recover plants and animals in danger of disappearing in the province, including three projects in Hastings and Lennox and Addington counties.
Greater Napanee is one of 7 communities in which Wildlife Preservation Canada will implement a recovery strategy for Eastern Loggerhead Shrike over three years using a grant of $269,417.29.
In Cloyne, the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre is getting $522,000 to mitigate threats to at-risk turtle populations through rehabilitation, education, headstarting, field studies and data-sharing.
Finally, Marmora is among those communities where Natural Resource Inc. will support the recovery of at-risk butterflies. ....
