Intel discontinues 'hybrid technology' Lakefield processors

Due to shifting demand, Intel has discontinued its Foveros-based Lakefield processors which were heralded for their “hybrid technology” when they were first unveiled back in 2018.
At that time, the chip giant positioned Lakefield and the Foveros technology powering these processors as an answer to Arm s big.LITTLE because these chips have one main CPU core paired with several lower-power cores.
Specifically Lakefield processors feature one 10nm Sunny Cove CPU core paired with four Tremont Atom-based cores. While the bigger Sunny Cove core is used to tackle heavy workloads that require a lot of power, the Tremont cores are used to more efficiently handle background tasks. ....

Lenovo unveiled its first foldable PC –ThinkPad X1 Fold in India at a starting price of Rs 329,000.
The latest PC adapts to the new remote, office and hybrid working models, enabling trailblasers to embrace ground-breaking innovation that will empower creativity, collaboration and entertainment.
“With the ThinkPad X1 Fold, we have worked towards providing users with pioneering the world’s first seamless foldable screen experience complimented with audio/video screen experience, ultra-light and ultra-mobile products for a new hybrid working world,”Stephen Sequeira, Director, REL, India, said in a statement.

Intel channels additional 475 million USD into Vietnam

Intel had poured an additional 475 million USD into Intel Products Vietnam (IPV), its single-largest assembly and test plant within the Intel Assembly and Test (ATM) network, IPV Director of Finance Alan Danner said on January 27.

He made the announcement during a meeting with businesses hosted by Saigon Hi-tech Park (SHTP) in Ho Chi Minh City.
This is a new investment following a sum of 1.04 billion USD invested to build a chip assembly and test manufacturing facility at SHTP in 2006, bringing the semiconductor company’s investment in Vietnam to 1.5 billion USD in total. ....
