Albanian Socialists on course for win after divisive election campaign

Preliminary results from Sunday s parliamentary election in Albania suggest the ruling Socialist Party (PS) will retain its parliamentary majority.
The PS was credited with 48.6 per cent of the vote at 11.45 am CET on Tuesday morning, with fewer than 400 of the country s 5,199 polling stations yet to report. The opposition Democratic Party (PD) had meanwhile secured 39.4 per cent of ballots.
If confirmed, the results would give the PS 73 of parliament s 140 seats, according to Europe Elects.
Incumbent Prime Minister Edi Rama has invited supporters to join him and his PS lawmakers to embrace victory at a gathering in the capital on Tuesday afternoon. ....

TIRANA, April 27 (Xinhua) Albania s ruling Socialist Party (SP) broke the tradition in election results, heading towards the third consecutive mandate as over 94 percent of all ballots have been counted, according to the Central Election Commission (CEC) reports on Tuesday.
The CEC preliminary results showed that the SP led by Prime Minister Edi Rama leads with 48.59 percent of votes, followed by the Democratic Party (DP) led by Lulzim Basha with 39.31 percent of the votes.
The Socialist Movement for Integration is ranked third with 6.85 percent, followed by the Social Democratic Party with 2.25 percent. ....

Albania’s left-wing Socialist Party has secured its third consecutive mandate in a parliamentary election, winning nearly half of votes and enough seats in parliament to govern alone, electoral authorities said.
The Central Election Commission said on Tuesday that, with 98 percent of the ballots from Sunday’s voting counted, Prime Minister Edi Rama’s Socialists had won 49 percent of the vote and 74 of parliament’s 140 seats. That is the same number of seats they won in the previous election.
The main opposition centre-right Democratic Party got 39 percent of the ballots and 59 seats, while its ally, the Socialist Movement for Integration (LSI), won seven per cent of the vote and four seats. ....
