Tackling Corona chaos in capital city at the cost of rural hospitals

JAMMU, May 30: In an attempt to tackle Coronavirus in the capital city by establishing additional health infrastructure, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir is apparently subjecting the rural belts to more devastation during the ongoing second wave of the pandemic.
As the Department of Health and Medical Education is concentrating on deployment of more medicos in the COVID designated hospitals in Jammu city, doctors and para-medical staff are being deployed here by shifting them from rural hospitals and Primary Health Centres, which are already facing acute shortage of staff.
More worrisome is the fact that in the process, some rural hospitals and PHCs have been rendered virtually defunct as the single Medical Officers (Medicines) serving in such health centres were too shifted to new facilities in Jammu. ....

With alarming rise in COVID cases, number of beds available in hospitals decrease

JAMMU, May 5: With alarming surge in COVID cases in the UT for last three days the number of beds meant for such patients in the Hospitals across the J&K has have declared.
As per reports, out of 1700 beds which were available in SKIMS Srinagar, different medical colleges of the UT as well as private hospitals, district and sub district hospitals on May 2 has now declined to 177 by this evening due to the alarming surge in the number of COVID patients.
The official data revealed that out of 177 beds, 97 are vacant in the Medical Colleges and other hospitals of Jammu region while 80 are available in different Medical Colleges as well as other hospitals of Kashmir valley. ....
