New Executives Reflect FBI's Push for Diversity — FBI

New Executives Reflect Bureau’s Push for Diversity
FBI executive assistant directors at FBI Headquarters in May 2021. They include (from left) Darrin E. Jones, Science and Technology Branch; Larissa L. Knapp, Human Resources Branch; M.A. “Mo” Myers, Intelligence Branch; Jill Sanborn, National Security Branch; and Brian C. Turner, Criminal, Cyber, Response, and Services Branch.
While the FBI’s most visible efforts to promote diversity within the ranks have focused on recruitment to build up the cadre of special agents, intelligence analysts, and professional staff, the Bureau’s executive corridor has undergone a similarly resolute transition to better represent the communities the FBI serves. ....

Director Wray Speaks on Civic Education as a National Security Imperative at Center for Strategic and International Studies — FBI

Remarks prepared for delivery.

Maybe the best place for me to start is to define what at least I think of as “civic education.” I’m reminded of something President Reagan said in his farewell address, when he spoke about the need for what he called an “informed patriotism,” one that’s “grounded in thoughtfulness and knowledge.” That strikes me as a pretty good shorthand for what civic education should do: create informed patriots who know our history and understand how our democratic institutions work. ....

Examining the January 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol — FBI

Statement for the Record
Good afternoon, Chairman Peters, Chairwoman Klobuchar, Ranking Member Portman, Ranking Member Blunt, and members of the committees. Thank you for the opportunity to appear before you today to discuss the FBI’s role and efforts leading up to and in response to the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol building. I am pleased to be here representing the dedicated men and women of the FBI’s Counterterrorism Division.
The violence and destruction of property at the U.S. Capitol building on January 6 showed a blatant and appalling disregard for our institutions of government and the orderly administration of the democratic process. The FBI does not tolerate violent extremists who use the guise of First Amendment-protected activity to engage in violent criminal activity. The destruction of property and violent assaults on law enforcement officers betray the values of our democracy. ....
