Louisiana’s Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) has announced the U.S. Department of Treasury’s acceptance of Louisiana’s Second Amended Direct Component Multiyear Implementation Plan under the Resources and Ecosystems Sustainability, Tourist Opportunities and Revived Economies of the Gulf Coast States Act of 2012 (RESTORE Act).
The amended plan refined the state’s strategy for spending its total allocation of $261 million from the RESTORE Act’s Direct Component of the Gulf Coast Restoration Trust Fund.
CPRA will apply for grants to begin implementing the projects described in the amendment, consisting of large-scale hydrologic and marsh restoration projects in the Calcasieu-Sabine Basin. ....

On Monday, Gov. Edwards and other state and local officials toured ongoing construction activities on Trinity-East Island in the Terrebonne Basin.
The island is one of three three barrier islands being restored.
According to a release, the Terrebonne Basin Barrier Island and Beach Nourishment project is using $167 million in funds from the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill to restore Trinity-East Island, West Belle Headland, and Timbalier Island.
Trinity-East Island is part of the Isle Dernières Wildlife Refuge, a once-popular resort island on Louisiana’s Southeast coast. In 1856, Isle Dernière was destroyed by the Last Island Hurricane, causing it to eventually split into five individual islands. ....

A competitively bid contract for the restoration of Rabbit Island was awarded to Weeks Marine, a dredging company with offices in Covington, La. The project is creating approximately 130 jobs.
The
Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) announced Jan. 12 that operations had gotten under way to restore Rabbit Island, the only Brown Pelican colony in southwest Louisiana.
Located in the southwest portion of Calcasieu Lake in Cameron Parish, Rabbit Island is the first rebuild of a waterbird colony since the successful restoration of Queen Bess Island a year ago, which saw a dramatic increase in nesting activity immediately following its completion. ....

CAMERON, La. - The Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) announced Tuesday that operations are underway to restore Rabbit Island, the only Brown Pelican colony in Southwest Louisiana. Located in the southwest portion of Calcasieu Lake in Cameron Parish, Rabbit Island is the first rebuild of a waterbird colony since the successful restoration of Queen Bess Island, which saw a dramatic increase in nesting activity immediately following its completion.
After a devastating hurricane season in Southwest Louisiana, this restoration project is even more important to the overall recovery of the region, said CPRA Chairman Chip Kline. The Houma Navigational Canal Project is advancing to construction using an alternative financing plan.
Louisiana officials have announced that construction on a $366 million flood protection project will begin using an alternative financing plan approved by the state legislature earlier this year.
The
Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) said Dec. 9 that the plan will be used for the flood-protection lock project in the
Houma Navigation Canal (HNC). It will allow the agency to incur debt or issue bonds to pay for projects. The lock will play a critical role in Terrebonne Parish s hurricane protection system. ....
