Gladys Berejiklian 'distressed' by sexual assault allegations against NSW MP Gareth Ward

The NSW premier says she s concerned and distressed by sexual assault allegations levelled against sidelined frontbencher Gareth Ward, as her government faces the prospect of sinking further into minority.
Mr Ward denies any wrongdoing and is yet to be contacted by police over the allegations, which he says he learned about in media reports.
The Kiama MP on Thursday night stepped aside as families, communities and disability services minister after identifying himself as the politician under investigation for sexual violence-related offences dating back eight years.
Police are investigating the allegations, which reportedly took place from 2013.

NSW MP Gareth Ward Is Under Police Investigation Over Sexual Violence

Gareth Ward has outed himself as the MP under police investigation over allegations of sexual violence.
In a statement released on Thursday, Ward said he denies any wrongdoing but will stand aside as Minister and from the Liberal Party room.
“Today I have been made aware by a journalist of an investigation into me by NSW Police,” Ward said.
“I have not been contacted by police in relation to any allegations.
“Until this matter is resolved, it is appropriate I stand aside from my role as Minister. I will also remove myself from the Liberal Party room. ....

Keelie McMahon was 14 when she alleges she was sexually abused by family friend and nurse, James Geoffrey Griffin.
The now-24-year-old has been telling her story to encourage other survivors of child sexual abuse to speak out.
I’m doing it to help other people that have gone through it, so they can get the courage to come forward and talk about what’s happened to them as well, she told SBS News.
In 2019 five woman came forward and made historic complaints of sexual abuse against James Griffin, ranging from the late 1980s through to 2012.
He started getting charged for all these different things, more people came forward, and then all of a sudden it just stopped, because he committed suicide, and that was the end of it, Ms McMahon said. ....

Men charged over brawl
Three men have been charged over the alleged assault of two teenage girls in inner Sydney at the weekend.
Police say the two girls, aged 16 and 18, were assaulted when a group of people became involved in a verbal argument at Pirrama Park in Pyrmont on Saturday night.
Video of the brawl shows several young men repeatedly hitting two young women and throwing them to the ground. ....
