Salvation Army food pantry gets boost


HIGH POINT — The Salvation Army food pantry received half of a nearly 38,000-pound truckload of food Thursday morning from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City. The other half went to supply food pantries in Charlotte.
The Salvation Army of High Point houses a homeless shelter for families, a food pantry and distributes food to other food pantries that get no federal funding. The Salvation Army works with several schools to provide backpacks of food so students will have food over the weekends.
At the beginning of the pandemic, the church sent 20 truckloads totaling about 800,000 pounds of food to North and South Carolina, according to Wendy Deardon, director of communications for the church’s High Point stake. Church members are asked to fast on the first Sunday of each month and to give a generous offering equal to the value of two meals not eaten while fasting. ....

HPU Students Give Back to the Community Throughout the Fall Semester | High Point University


Despite the global pandemic, HPU students found ways to safely give back to the surrounding community. HPU’s Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority made 93 baby blankets for the March of Dimes Foundation, an organization that works to improve the health of mothers and babies.
