The United Family is once again stepping up to help the Lubbock community. On Tuesday it was announced that The United Family would be donating 1,000 pairs of socks to the Salvation Army of Lubbock.
The donation comes from a program called Pears for Pairs . During the time span of October to December of 2020, a portion of the proceeds from the purchase of Rainier pears went to purchasing socks that The United Family could donate to organizations in Lubbock and throughout Texas that support the homeless population. ....

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Today, the United Family donated 1,000 pairs of socks to the Salvation Army of Lubbock. This is the second year the United Family has helped make this donation to the Salvation Army in Lubbock.
The donation stems from a program called “Pears for Pairs.” From October to December of 2020, a portion of the proceeds from the purchase of Rainier Fruit pears went to purchasing socks to donate to organizations that support the homeless community. ....

Bellringing veteran raises more than $200,000 in 20 years

Johnston just completed his 20th season ringing the bell.
Major David Worthy says Johnston has spent at least 6,000 hours at the red kettle, raising more than $200,000 over two decades.
He is an absolute inspiration to us. We love Jamie. He s one of our own. The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign would not be what it is in the South Plains without Jamie, Worthy said.
He provides more hours than any other individual or group in our area.
This season alone, his kettle has raised more than $15,000.
He really, truly is a life-changer to people in need, Worthy praised.
Despite having cerebral palsy and being confined to a wheelchair, Johnston rings the bell full-time throughout the season. ....

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - The South Plains Homeless Consortium and community partners wanted to honor homeless individuals who have died in Lubbock by hosting a candlelight vigil on National Homeless Personsâ Memorial Day.
