More than 400 Fitton Hill children received gifts thanks to the Salvation Army’s Christmas Present Appeal this year.
Teaming up with community group Reel CIC, corps officer Major Estelle Blake, community workers Graham and Kim Rogers, and their volunteers ensured families were helped to celebrate Christmas in an area that has been particularly hard hit by the pandemic.
Determined to spread festive joy, as well as handing out gifts to struggling families, they hosted a Covid-secure Santa’s Grotto at the café and community hub The Brew, which was visited by 200 children. ....

Mum's Christmas gift for charity that 'saved her life' when she hit rock bottom

A mum-of-two who hit rock bottom when her marriage broke down and she lost her home has donated thousands of pounds worth of presents to The Salvation Army’s Christmas Present Appeal – after the charity ‘saved her life’.
Simone Williams’s life started to spiral after she suffered a heart attack on Boxing Day 2013, aged just 28 and while pregnant with her second child.
When her marriage broke down a few months after her baby was born prematurely, but thankfully healthily, Simone, 35, of Clitheroe, Lancashire, and her two children were forced to move out of the family home.
Having given up work so she could care for her daughters, now aged seven and six, Simone fell into arrears on her rented house – and facing the prospect of not being able to buy her children Christmas presents, she hit rock bottom. ....

Christmas spirit comes to Gosberton, Spalding, Holbeach and Deeping St Nicholas
South Holland has been getting into the festive spirit.
Carols, crafting and baking were among the activities enjoyed by residents at Fenchurch House and St Johnâs Care Home in Spalding along with Holbeachâs Beech Lodge.
Parents and staff at The Priory School in Spalding have rallied around to support the Salvation Armyâs Christmas Present Appeal.
Priory School pupils have been fundraising this Christmas (43576712)
Teacher Nicole Amott and Hayley Franks, teaching assistant, organised a non-uniform day which raised Â£73 while pupils donated 18 shoe boxes, 11 gift sets, 18 presents and 10 bars of chocolate. ....

The Salvation Army says demand for support in Govan has doubled as church leaders appear on BBC s The One Show
DEMAND for the crucial festive work of The Salvation Army has almost doubled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Around 1500 children - who might otherwise miss out on Christmas gifts - will be given a present this year.
Church leaders Majors Mark and Tracy Bearcroft say that compared to last year they are already seeing almost twice as much demand from people hardest hit by the pandemic.
The church s work featured on BBC One’s The One Show this week.
Film crews recorded at the church and charity in Govan to capture its Christmas Present Appeal, which this year is expected to bring joy to around 1500 children who might otherwise miss out on opening a present. ....
