In my last column of the year, I want to say how much I enjoy writing this little opinion piece every two weeks. The Calgary Herald has been very generous in allowing me to do this and in the two-plus years that I have been voicing my opinion, they have only once said, “OK, that column might have been out of line.” I am not going to tell you which one that was.
Also, I have been overwhelmed by the number of people who have commented to me about the things I have written. Most feedback has been positive, but most gratifying has been whenever people have disagreed with me, it has almost always been gracious and polite. Oh, there has been the odd person who tested the thickness of my skin, but most people have stayed in the spirit of good discussion. ....

Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign ends Dec. 24 in Garden City

It ends at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve.
Chelsea Barnes, a lieutenant with the Salvation Army, said the campaign is more important this year than in previous years, as has been an increased awareness of the organization and its programs.
More people have been using the Salvation Army’s services, such as utility assistance, food assistance and even the Christmas Toy program, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Barnes said.
“Even with COVID, the amount of people that we have been serving overall has increased this year,” she said. “So the need is greater and therefore the need for resources and funding is even greater.” ....

The Salvation Army hires people to be bell-ringers, and that helps give them seasonal employment, but service clubs, like Kiwanis and Rotary, send their volunteers to the red kettles. Bell-ringers for the Mount Clemens Salvation Army are the New Baltimore Lions Club, the Mount Clemens Lions Club, the Mount Clemens Kiwanis Club, and the Mount Clemens Rotary Club. Bell ringers for the Salvation Army Warren Corps Community Center include the Kiwanis Club of Warren and the Rotary Club of Warren. The Bill Wright family of daughters and granddaughters, pictured here, represented the Warren Kiwanis,Â Many club members collected over several weeks. ....

Bass Pro Matching Salvation Army Kettle Donations At Springfield Location Up To $20,000

With just about a third to go in the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign, Bass Pro is offering to matching donations to red kettles outside its Springfield location up to 20 thousand dollars from December 21st until 2 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
A representative for Bass Pro says its grateful that the fund will go right back to the community during trying times.
The goal for this year’s kettle campaign is 875 thousand dollars.

HANCOCK COUNTY Thanks to all that 2020 has entailed, the need for charitable giving has skyrocketed this Christmas season.
Many people have answered the call for donations and volunteers through various holiday giving programs, but the need continues. Below is a list of programs and the needs that still remain:
