The main post office downtown is still struggling to sort and deliver mail, and that means your packages may not arrive in a timely way.The 11 News I-Team first reported the problems on Friday and on Monday learned nothing has changed.People want to know why packages is sitting for days inside a facility. On their website, the postal service says it s experiencing unprecedented package increases and had limited employee availability because of the impact of the coronavirus.A nightly mail truck traffic jam at the main post office downtown. Drivers told the 11 news 1-Team they are frustrated because they can t unload or load up cargo. RICHMOND, Va. As the holiday season approaches, many people are going to be sending gifts by mail and packages, so the post office released some recommended shipping deadlines.
The United States Postal Service said it is getting ready for the busiest mailing and shipping week. It suggested people send mail or ship packages from Dec. 14 - 21.
USPS is expecting an increased amount of deliveries because more people have been shipping packages and mailing across the country due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Here are the holiday shipping deadlines:

More people are expected to mail and ship gifts this holiday season than in previous years.
And if you plan on using USPS Ground, UPS Ground or FedEx Ground you have until Tuesday if you want your gift to be delivered in time for Christmas. All three suggest mailing your packages by Tuesday but you can of course wait longer and still get your packages delivered by Christmas but you’ll pay more.
