FG: Two million vaccines reserved for second jab

The Federal Government has said that two million doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine have been reserved for the second dose in the first phase of vaccination,
It explained with 1,748,242 Nigerians vaccinated as of May 12, 2021, the percentage targeted with the first jab is 86.9 percent.
Noting the vaccination with the second dose of the vaccine has started, it urged persons who have received their first dose of the vaccine to ensure they check their vaccination cards to know when they are due for their second jab.
The Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr Faisal Shuaib, made these known during a virtual briefing organised by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (ACDC) on covid-19 response on Thursday. ....

Suspected herdsmen burn Kogi school, timber contractor killed

The Government Secondary School, Illuke, in the Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State has been razed by yet-to-be identified arsonists.
It was reliably gathered that the school was invaded around 3pm on Wednesday.
Sources revealed that students resumed on Thursday to discover that blocks of classrooms on the school premises had been set ablaze.
The source said one of the suspects, identified as a Fulani herder, was arrested and handed over to the Kabba/Bunu Divisional Police Officer.
The Commissioner of Police, Ayuba Edeh, who confirmed the incident, however, said, “No suspect has been handed over to the police.” ....

Blasphemy: Appeal court overturns Umar Farouk's 10-year sentence NEWS

Umar Farouk sentenced last year to 10 years’ jail for “blasphemy” by Sharia court in Kano had his sentence overturned on Thursday by the state’s appeal court.
“The judgement of the sharia court is hereby nullified for lack of credibility and considering the appellant is a minor,” the court said in a judgement seen by AFP.
Aged just 13 when he was sentenced, Farouk “is hereby discharged and acquitted”, they added.
The court applying Islamic sharia law, enforced in some Muslim-majority states in northern Nigeria, sentenced Farouk to 10 years’ forced labour after convicting him of blaspheming during an argument with a friend. ....
