Second purchase of govt securities worth Rs 35,000 crore on May 20

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 5 (ANI): Reserve Bank of India (RBI)Governor Shaktikanta Das said on Wednesday the second purchase of government securities (G-Secs) under the Government Securities Acquisition Programme (G-SAP) 1.0 will be conducted on May 20.
The government will buy securities worth Rs 35,000 crore. The RBI had first announced G-SAP 1.0 in its monetary policy on April 7.
The RBI conducted the first phase of open market purchase on April 15 with five dated securities for an amount aggregating to Rs 25,000 crore.
The first G-SAP auctions elicited an enthusiastic response. G-SAP is contributing to softening of government security yields and in turn private sector borrowing in the market, said Das. ....

He was earlier Executive Director of the central bank, looking after the Department of Payment and Settlement Systems, the Department of Information Technology, Fintech and the Risk Monitoring Department.
His areas of expertise include exchange rate management, reserves portfolio management, public debt management, monetary operations and development, regulation and surveillance of financial markets, payment systems and IT infrastructure.
Sankar served as an IMF consultant from 2005-11 on developing government bond markets and debt management. He represented RBI on international forums like Bank for International Settlements besides various expert committees and working groups. ....

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], Apr 30 (ANI): Reserve Bank of India (RBI)Governor Shaktikanta Das on Friday held a virtual meeting with managing directors and CEOs of small finance banks to gauge potential stress on their balance sheets in the backdrop of rising Covid-19 cases and consequent localised lockdowns.
He discussed the current economic situation, credit flows to different segments of borrowers and the liquidity scenario, according to a statement released by the central bank.
Das recognised the important role of small finance banks in delivering credit and other financial services to individuals and small businesses. He emphasised supervisory expectations in terms of maintaining their business resilience and managing risks prudently. ....

The International Swaps and Derivatives Association is set to recognise India as an effective netting jurisdiction in a positive legal opinion due to be published “imminently” for its members. Dealers say clarity on the enforceability of close-out netting in the country will free up large amounts of regulatory capital that banks are currently required to set aside for derivatives transactions, allowing them to do more trades.
