The Alberta NDP and anti-racism advocates are warning that a government bill working its way through the legislature creates no clear ban on carding and will open the door to police interference.
The UCP announced in November a ban on the practice of police carding, or randomly stopping and questioning members of the public and collecting personal information without a legitimate investigative reason. Justice Minister Kaycee Madu introduced Bill 63: the Police Street Checks and Carding Amendment Act, which is awaiting second reading, to embed the ban in law.

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) has granted bail to six lawyers in the Islamabad High Court attack case.
The court rejected the bail plea of District Bar Association's Secretary Liaqat Manzoor Kamboh.
Those granted bails have been asked by the court to submit a bond of Rs50,000 each.
ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) has granted bail to six lawyers in the Islamabad High Court attack case, while it rejected the bail plea of one lawyer.
According to Geo News, during the hearing related to the IHC attack case, the court rejected the bail plea of the District Bar Association's Secretary Liaqat Manzoor Kamboh.

Edmonton's police chief attempts to clarify position on symbols of hate

In an attempt to clarify his position, Edmonton police chief Dale McFee reiterated remarks he made Tuesday about the use of tiki torches at a recent rally on Alberta's legislature grounds.
"I want to acknowledge the behaviours, associated groups and symbols of racism and hatred that were on display at the rally are something that I personally condemn and something that our police service condemns."
The chief's latest public comments on the issue came Wednesday morning at the beginning of a Facebook Live info session with the head of the EPS Hate Crimes and Violent Extremism Unit, Sgt. Gary Willits.
