(ANI) Share Via Read Full Story Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Tejasvi Surya today took a sortie in the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas at the Aero India show in Bengaluru. Tejasvi Surya said, "The LCA Tejas is a symbol of Atmanirbhar Bharat. It is a beacon of scientific excellence and capabilities of India. I am extremely delighted today that I got an opportunity to fly in this wonderful fighter jet. LCA Tejas is Bengaluru's gift to India."
LCA contract On the LCA contract, he said, “This contract is the biggest Make in India defence contract till date.” The contract includes 73 LCA Tejas Mk-1A fighter aircraft and 10 LCA Tejas Mk-1 trainer aircraft at a cost of ₹45,696 crore along with design and development of infrastructure sanctions worth ₹1,202 crore. “The deliveries of all 83 aircraft shall be completed in eight years from now. HAL will be delivering the first three aircraft in the 3rd year and 16 aircraft per year for subsequent five years,” a Defence Ministry statement said. HAL has already set up a second assembly line to ramp up production from eight aircraft a year to 16. HAL officials said a third assembly line could be set up based on requirement.

The event is being organised by the HAL on behalf of Department of Defence Production (DDP), Ministry of Defence, Government of India to promote Aerospace and Defence (AandD) manufacturing and export potential of the Defence Industry.

"83 LCA order from Indian Air Force is the single largest order ever from the air force as the number of aircraft is concerned," Reddy told ANI adding that it will be giving a major boost to the aeronautics of the country. Terming the decision of the government 'historical', he said that this is will pave the way for the development of the new aircraft.

Funding of Rs 45.696 Crore ($6.4 billion) covers the acquisition of 73 LCA Mk1A single-seaters and 10 LCA-T Mk1A two-seaters. An amount of Rs 1,202 Crore was also approved for the design and development of associated infrastructure. Mk1A production is slated to start in 2022.
