The 24-hour lockdown has coupled with the night curfew, effecting an extended lockdown of 30 hours. The lockdown coupled with the night curfew started from 10 p.m. on Saturday. As the night curfew is from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., the lockdown will be over by 4 a.m. on Monday.
G. Stalin, Deputy Commissioner (Law and Order), Coimbatore City Police, said that essential services as prescribed by the government will be exempted. Police forces will be deployed across the city limits to check the compliance, he said. ....

Warning: Proposals 'would have devastating impact on Scotland's red meat supply chain'

The Scottish Red Meat Resilience Group has responded in strong opposition to the recommendations in both the DEFRA and Scottish Government consultations on Welfare of Animals at Transport, which closes for submissions this week.
According to the group, if implemented, the proposals contained within the consultations would have a devastating impact on Scotland’s red meat supply chain.
The cross-industry group, which aims to seek out ways to protect, promote and develop the industry, was established in 2019. Chaired by Quality Meat Scotland’s chair Kate Rowell, the group consists of representatives from across the supply chain including the Scottish Beef Association, NFU Scotland, National Sheep Association Scotland, Scottish Association of Young Farmers’ Clubs, Scottish Association of Meat Wholesalers, Pig Industry Leadership Group, Scottish Federation of Meat Traders Association, and The Institute of Auctioneers & Appraisers in Scotland ....

With Maharashtra passing the anti-cattle slaughter act four years ago, Goa relies solely on Karnataka for bulk of its beef consumption supplied either through transport of live buffalo and bull or carcass from the neighbouring state’s abattoirs.

Over the the past 72 hours, with the state already starting to feel shortage of beef, the Goa government has come under growing administrative and political pressure to facilitate meat to a tourist state gearing for Christmas and New Year celebrations.
With the BJP government in Karnataka proposing a more stringent law on banning cattle slaughter, the Pramod Sawant-led Goa administration on Wednesday convened a meeting between cattle suppliers from Karnataka and meat traders of Goa to look for a legal channel for safe passage of livestock to the state. ....
