Kodatt was nominated by Madigan, who finally called it quits after 50 years in the state legislature.
We are gathered here this morning because I have resigned as the state representative of the 22nd District of the State of Illinois, Madigan said.
While I never imagined having such big shoes to fill, I hope my selection will inspire other young people in the district and across our great state to get involved, Kodatt said. I am ready to bring new ideas and new perspectives to the Southwest Side. I m ready to get to work.
Madigan held more than half of the weighted votes required for selection. He voted for Kodatt after nominating the graduate student, who is likely the least experienced of any of the ten men and women who presented themselves as candidates. ....

CHICAGO (CBS) Little more than a month after surrendering the gavel as Speaker of the Illinois, Michael Madigan has resigned his seat as a state representative.
Initially, Madigan released a statement saying his resignation would be effective at the end of February. But Madigan has since issued a letter saying his resignation was effective immediately.
CBS 2 Political Investigator Dana Kozlov reported it is not clear why Madigan abruptly changed his resignation date. He declined an interview request.

Former Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan is resigning as a state representative after 50 years in office. It came a little more than a month after he was ousted as speaker.
Michael J. Madigan was already the former Illinois House speaker, but on Feb. 18 he said he will become a former state representative by resigning at the end of the month.
Madigan, 78, served 36 years as Illinois’ House speaker before he was voted out on Jan. 13 by House Democrats. He has served 50 years as a state representative of the 22nd Illinois House district, which surrounds Midway Airport near Chicago. ....
