Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- An oral history of the Park Forest Aqua Center with John Joyce and Kris Martin will air this Sunday, May 16, 2021, at 2:30 p.m. The Park Forest Historical Society will present the 1988 interview on their YouTube Channel free of charge. The interview was done by Tom McDade, former employee of American Community Builders, and then vice-president of PFHS, and Jane Nicoll, Archivist for PFHS. The program will launch on Sunday and will remain on YouTube. ....

CMC: Transcribes Oral History Interviews

261 interviews at approximately
182 hours and
41 minutes. This was done through a combination of editing transcriptions that were created by volunteers prior to the CMC taking on this project, pulling caption transcripts from interviews that were uploaded onto YouTube to clean up, and transcribing audio files from scratch. The last process involved listening to the audio files in a program called Express Scribe, which allows adjustments in audio speed and rewind/fast forward/stop/play through assigned “hot keys,” and then typing every word out in Microsoft Word. ....

When you think of âTurkey Day,â it may drum up images of family gatherings around the table on Thanksgiving Day, the Macyâs parade or football games. But, in the late 1930s, during the later days of the Great Depression, âTurkey Dayâ in Bloomington took on a different meaning.
On Dec. 21, 1937, the first Turkey Day was held in downtown Bloomington, sponsored by the Junior Association of Commerce (JAC) as a business promotional plan with the assistance of Association of Commerce, Peopleâs Bank, McLean County Bank, the National Bank of Bloomington, the American State Bank, Corn Belt Bank, and The Pantagraph. Open to any resident in Central Illinois, the event had participants vie for the chance to win one of 100 turkeys, geese, ducks, guinea hens or chickens to be given away that day. ....
