Free books will be available Saturday to children at two Polk County locations.
The giveaway is a First Book event, sponsored by the Polk Education Association, Florida’s Young Remarkable Educators, the Florida Education Association, the American Federation of Teachers and the National Education Association.
Since 1992, national nonprofit First Book has distributed more than 185 million books and educational resources to programs and schools serving children from low-income communities in more than 30 countries, according to a news release.
The book giveaways for children through age 18 will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at Boone Middle School, 225 S. 22nd St., Haines City; and Stephens Elementary School, 1350 N. Maple Ave., Bartow. The limit is two books per child. ....
