ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC), the regulatory body of the legal profession, seems to have reached a deadlock when it met on May 7 to sort out two issues the demolition of lawyers’ chambers in a posh area of the federal capital as well as the suspension of licences.
No formal resolution was adopted at the meeting over the launch of a countrywide campaign since most of the participants opposed the proposal, an informed source confided to Dawn. ....

ISLAMABAD: Information and Broadcasting Minister Fawad Chaudhry said the lawyers play a key role in enforcing the Constitution and the rule of law.
“Lawyers are defenders of democracy, human rights and the Constitution and their exemplary and enlightened role in upholding the Constitution will always be remembered,” he said this Thursday during meetings with delegations of Islamabad High Court Bar, district Jhelum, Sohawa and Pind Dadan Khan associations.

ISLAMABAD:
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday further extended the suspension of licences of 23 lawyers in the misconduct case in IHC vandalism. A larger bench headed by Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard the case pertaining to misconduct committed by lawyers during attack on IHC building.
The court instructed the senior lawyers to prepare a list of lawyers who were involved in the incident of vandalising the high court building during their violent protest. The Islamabad Bar Association (IBA) President Fareed Kaif tendered an apology from Islamabad High Court (IHC) on the high court attack case. ....
