The chief executive of the International Trademark Association, Etienne Sanz de Acedo, has revealed that more than half of the association’s members who responded to a survey wanted a virtual Annual Meeting in 2021, with additional in-person gatherings prompting it to upturn earlier plans.
This week, INTA confirmed that its Annual Meeting will be carried out mostly virtually in 2021, reversing its previous decision to hold an in-person meeting in Houston, Texas in November.
In an exclusive interview with
WIPR, Sanz de Acedo explained that as the threat posed by the pandemic still prevailed in early spring this year, INTA decided to potentially re-evaluate its plans based on the feedback and views of members. ....

On Friday, February 5, the International Trademark Association (INTA) announced the details of this year’s annual meeting, one of the biggest dates on the trademark law calendar.
After deferring last year’s planned event in Singapore and instead holding a virtual meeting in November, INTA is planning a return towards normal in Houston later this year.
Speaking exclusively to
WIPR on Friday, INTA CEO Etienne Sanz de Acedo said his reading was that “most INTA members are looking forward to meeting in-person” as soon as possible.
“After a very difficult year, we want to bring some optimism to our members. We think there is a very good chance we will have an in-person meeting,” Sanz de Acedo said. ....

INTA Co-Hosts Roundtable as Chile Advances on Madrid System - International Trademark Association

As Chile approaches possible implementation of the Madrid System, INTA, together with local member firm Alessandri Abogados (Chile), hosted a virtual roundtable on January 12, to discuss challenges and opportunities that the Madrid System would bring to trademark owners in the country.
The bill to implement this treaty entered the Chilean Congress’s first constitutional process on December 2, 2020. The Chamber of Deputies approved the bill on January 14, 2021. The next step is the second constitutional procedure in the Senate, the timing of which is not yet known.
