9 & 10 News July 28, 2021 TUSTIN – The local fire department received a donation for $1,327 during a check presentation at the fire hall, Wednesday afternoon. Money was raised during a three day-long vacation bible school with the theme “First Responders – Who We Go To For Help.” The initial goal was to raise $300 for local first responders, but within one night they had already reached their goal. The donations continued to pour in from the community after the first night. “It makes me feel very, very appreciative with what is going on,” says Fire Chief Robert Rose. “It was definitely a big eye opener and it was a great thing to see the community come and to support us.” ....

Claire Doering, Standard Oil’s first Aruba baby, ‘always had a smile’: Today’s obituary Updated 11:07 AM; By AL.com Claire Delight (Wilken) Doering, a retired executive assistant to the Vice President of Research at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, died April 6, at age 90, after a battle with colon cancer. Although she was born in 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri, she spent much of her early life in Aruba where her father took a job in 1929 helping build a Standard Oil refinery. “She was always proud of the distinction of having grown up in Aruba and having been the first baby in the Standard Oil colony there,” her obituary states. ....
