Decatur Book Festival becomes one-day October event, features Emory authors


The AJC Decatur Book Festival Presented by Emory University is permanently moving from its traditional Labor Day slot to the first weekend in October, and this year’s literary events will feature two Emory faculty authors.
This year’s festival will be a one-day program taking place on Saturday, Oct. 2, at the First Baptist Church of Decatur, as part of a larger Festival Weekend lineup that also includes the Amplify Decatur Music Festival (Oct. 1-2), the Decatur Craft Beer Festival (Oct. 2) and the Decatur Arts Festival (Oct. 2-3). 
The book festival will take place on the church grounds, and booksellers and food vendors will have pop-up shops at the church. Author panel events will also be streamed online. ....

U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo to give free Emory University reading online


Current U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo, the first Native American to hold the position, will read her poems at an event hosted by the Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library on Saturday, March 20, at 4 p.m.
Part of the Raymond Danowski Poetry Library Reading Series, this normally large in-person event will be held online due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions. Attendees are asked to register here to receive a viewing link prior to the event, which is open to the public at no charge.
Harjo became the 23rd poet laureate of the United States in 2019 and was recently appointed by the Library of Congress to a rare third term, to begin in September 2021. She is an internationally renowned musician, writer and citizen of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation in Oklahoma. ....

Emory to include libraries and museum under new leadership structure


Interim Provost Jan Love has announced plans to include Emory Libraries and the Michael C. Carlos Museum under a new leadership structure designed to facilitate closer coordination in the fulfilment of their mutual educational, research and discovery missions, and ultimately enhance support for both.  
A new vice provost for libraries and museums will provide a direct link to the Office of the Provost and engage the Emory community in planning for the future of both areas, including advancing the digitization, cataloging and conservation of the university’s extraordinary collections, while continuing to enhance access for the Emory community and beyond. ....
