USD 428 District Education Center
Eisenhower Elementary School Principal JoAnn Blevins told the Great Bend USD 428 Board of Education that plans are moving forward to open the Little Panthers Preschool at the former Head Start location, which closed in 2019. The property at 3400 21st St. will be leased from the First Congregational United Church of Christ.
“There are big things happening with Little Panthers preschool,” also known as “LPP,” Blevins told the school board. ....

GBMS Robotics Club receive $1,000 donation
Great Bend USD 428 Director of Teaching and Learning Tricia Reiser has worked with the district’s teaching coaches to design and offer a wide variety of summer courses for teachers.
“We did a survey and asked staff what (classes) they want us to provide,” Reiser told the school board on Monday. Training will be available during the afternoons in June, which will allow staff to take part in the summer school programs in the morning. ....

Barton County COVID-19 numbers hold steady

Great Bend USD 428 reports that the district was notified Thursday, Jan. 21, that a staff member at Helping Hands Preschool has tested positive. Two additional staff members and four students were identified as close contacts. Previously, on Jan. 18, the district learned that another staff member at the preschool had tested positive and 10 school contacts had been identified.
Pawnee County
The latest statistics from the Pawnee County Health Department show 48 new cases of COVID-19 reported within the past two weeks, including 26 cases in the past week.
Total active cases were 29 as of Tuesday, Jan. 19.
Total cases for Pawnee County reported by KDHE at that time were 1,077 which included residents in long-term care, Larned State Hospital and the Larned Correctional and Mental Health Facility. Sheepadoodle ‘Gabby’ joins teaching staff
Barton County Special Services Cooperative Director Christie Gerdes, right, introduces Gabby, a therapy dog, to children and staff in a local classroom.
A puppy named Gabby is expected to have a calming influence on children in area schools. Christie Gerdes, director of the Barton County Special Services Cooperative, brought the perky sheepadoodle to the Great Bend USD 428 Board of Education meeting on Monday to introduce her.
