Complaints filed with state about Zoar fire department nonprofit status

ZOAR Three complaints about the operations of the Zoar Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. have been filed with the Charitable Law Section of the Ohio Attorney General s Office.
The most recent, made May 3, came from Councilman Joseph Potelicki. He objects to the fire department holding fundraisers despite the fact that it no longer responds to fires.
Potelicki noted the organization has not had a contract with Zoar for fire protection since June 2020.
As a concerned citizen and village representative, I do not understand how they can raise money for a fire department that is no longer operating, he wrote. They hold ongoing monthly dinners at the Zoar Fire Station coordinated and advertised by the Meiser family. They have not disclosed to village (council) any accounting of funds received from their dinners. Furthermore, we ve seen no evidence benefiting fire fighting for the community. ....

BRATTLEBORO Kevin Lambert and Matt Casabona are looking forward to making the Brattleboro Fire Department as strong as ever.
They were both promoted to lieutenant this month.
I m super excited for this opportunity and position, and I m looking forward to what the next few months and years are going to bring, Lambert said. I m excited to see what we as a department can continue to do to get people the best service possible.
Lambert was hired by the department as a full-time firefighter in May 2015. Previously, he was a volunteer for the fire department in Charlotte, Vt., which he joined when he was 18. ....
