Midlothian Police Department Under Scrutiny After Commander’s Daughter Released Following Traffic Stop
MIDLOTHIAN – It was around 2:30 a.m. on March 12 when the Mansfield Police Department contacted the Midlothian Police Department about a reckless driver heading that way.
The 21-year-old driver was in a red Jeep, and as it turned out, was the daughter of a Midlothian Police Commander.
She was immediately stopped when Midlothian Officer Philip Evitt turned on his lights at FM 663 near the cross street of Allen.
Up to that point everything had been done as most police officers are trained to do.
However, that is when things got a little confusing. ....

Staying in Midlothian Was A Blessing
MIDLOTHIAN – Midlothian Commander Vernell Dooley ended up with the Midlothian Police Department after he says God intervened.
“It was definitely a God thing,” Dooley said.
In the summer of 2020, he began praying about where God wanted him to serve.
“As I explored other opportunities, I applied for the Chief of Police position in Victoria, a position that would have resulted in me moving hours away from my family. While I was not named the chief in Victoria, the process allowed me to have an honest conversation with my family, during which they made it clear, they did not want to move away from Midlothian,” he explained. ....

Last night’s meeting took place at 6 PM, and began with an update from CalTrans on the reconstruction of Highway 62. The project aims to improve the highway pavement, is primarily funded through gas taxes, and is expected to take roughly two years to complete.
Next was a San Bernardino Fire Area Incident Report from Assistant Chief Scott Tuttle. If local homeowners need burn permits for their property, the burn season is still open and permits can be found online at sbcfire.org. ....

YUCCA VALLEY TOWN COUNCIL MEETS: UPDATES, CONTRACTS, COMMISSION CHANGES


Tonight’s meeting takes place at 6 p.m., and will begin with three presentations.
The first will be an update from CalTrans on the reconstruction of Highway 62, followed by a San Bernardino Fire Area Incident Report from Assistant Chief Scott Tuttle. The final guest presentation will be from Astrid Johnson, the president of Morongo Basin ARCH, a non-profit designed to combat homelessness.
The council will then award two engineering contracts to Engineering Resources of Southern California Inc. and the KOA Corporation for work to be done on North Park improvements and the Little League Drive project respectively.
Finally, the meeting will conclude with the acceptance of the resignations of  Paul Hoffman and Joanne Keiter and the re-appointments of Lori Herbel and George Huntington to the Revenue Measure Oversight Commission. ....
