BAGUIO CITY, May 25 (PIA) - - The Baguio AIDS Watch Council (AWAC) and the City Government through the City Health Services Office, call for solidarity in increasing awareness about HIV, especially on breaking down the stigma and discrimination that persons living with HIV (PLHIV) experience within the community.
AWAC members headed by Assistant City Health Officer Dr. Celiaflor Brillantes and Baguio officials headed by Mayor Benjamin Magalong led the lighting and offering of candles for PLHIV and to those who have died from the dreaded disease in a localized commemoration program of the 2021 International AIDS Candlelight Memorial during the regular Monday flag raising ceremony here on May 24. ....

Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) officials have booked six persons, including former the City Health Officer (CHO) and the Assistant City Health Officer of Madurai Corporation on charges of swindling ₹88.88 lakh, using fake bills under the guise of having procured larvicide for mosquito control.
Acting on a tip-off, the DVAC sleuths conducted an enquiry into the allegation that fake and fabricated bill invoices/tax invoices had been used on 17 occasions between June 4, 2012 and July 17, 2018 in the guise of having procured 13,950 litres of larvicide. SPMC inaugurates P18-M molecular lab

THE Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) inaugurated on Saturday, January 9, 2021, its P18-million molecular laboratory that could quadruple its testing capacity.
The facility was donated by the Metrobank Foundation (MBFI) and George Ty Foundation and constructed by the Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU). The facility was formally turned over to SPMC over the weekend.
The molecular facility will be conducting a real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test of up to 200 samples a day, with a result turn-around time of three operating days.
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, in a statement read by Assistant City Health Officer Dr. Marjorie Culas, said the new molecular laboratory will help improve the city government s testing efforts in its Covid-19 response. ....

“With this lab, we hope to quadruple the current testing capacity of the SPMC, especially as the burden caused by COVID-19 has been felt most acutely by those in the margins of society,” said City Mayor Sara Duterte in a statement read by Assistant City Health Officer Dr. Marjorie Culas. ....

THE Panabo City Health Office reported that 117 individuals tested positive for Sars-Cov-2, the virus causing Covid-19, from the Aggressive Community Testing (ACT) of the Department of Health.
This was out of the 1,008 persons under monitoring (PUM) testing in the city. Out of the number of positive cases, 51 had exposure or travel history to the Premium Market (Wet Market).
Because of this, the Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) headed by Governor Edwin I. Jubahib recommended the temporary suspension of the market’s operation, tagging it as a “hotspot for local transmission.”
City Mayor and Economic Enterprise Manager Jose E. Relampagos, together with the Panabo IATF, requested not to suspend the market’s operation as it is the primary source of people’s basic and essential needs. ....
