SunStar Contributed photo February 01, 2021 THE global pandemic quashed the grand plans we had for the 2020 Ateneo de Davao Grand Alumni Homecoming which my batch (ADDU HS batch 1995/ Grade School 1991) was hosting being last year s silver jubilarians. Our homecoming theme was Rock The Knight, which originally meant a homecoming to remember. But with the events that unfolded, the theme came to have a different yet poignant meaning. One of the plans would have included a reunion performance of an iconic OPM band which had its heyday during the 90s. Alas it wasn t meant to be. The eventual global crisis would have been a convenient excuse to discontinue the homecoming. ....

January 10, 2021 THE Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) inaugurated on Saturday, January 9, 2021, its P18-million molecular laboratory that could quadruple its testing capacity. The facility was donated by the Metrobank Foundation (MBFI) and George Ty Foundation and constructed by the Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU). The facility was formally turned over to SPMC over the weekend. The molecular facility will be conducting a real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test of up to 200 samples a day, with a result turn-around time of three operating days. Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, in a statement read by Assistant City Health Officer Dr. Marjorie Culas, said the new molecular laboratory will help improve the city government s testing efforts in its Covid-19 response. ....
