LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) The La Crosse Fire Department will assume administration of the Holmen Area Fire Department for a year under a resolution the La Crosse Common Council approved Thursday night.
Council members Mark Neumann and Doug Happel characterized the approval, at a cost of $14,583.33 a month to the Holmen district, as one of the most important actions the council took Thursday, if not stretching back further.
The resolution, which has been considered in one form or another for years and is similar to La Crosse pacts with other municipalities, is the result of the Holmen department’s request for the La Crosse department’s chief and subordinates “to serve as the Acting Chief and management and administration” for Holmen. ....

Ogdensburg manager, firefighters trade barbs over use of fire engines

OGDENSBURG — The public battle between the city and its fire union continued Friday with a fierce letter from the union’s president, saying City Manager Stephen P. Jellie “wants desperately to have his way, no matter how unsafe or how much resistance he gets.”
In a letter to media Friday, Jason T. Bouchard, president of Ogdensburg Professional Firefighters, Local 1799, called out Mr. Jellie — who is also the fire chief — for opting to have just one fire engine running to all emergency calls.
“There’s so many reasons why his one engine response is a bad idea, and we will eventually pay the price for this thoughtless move. Responding to a structure fire with only one engine, with a backup engine at least 10 minutes behind, could very well have devastating consequences,” Mr. Bouchard wrote. “We’re at a complete loss for how and why this is happening. One man can ride into the city occasionally (he still doesn’t live ....

EXCLUSIVE: New Haven Police Chief is Retiring, but Not Really

Updated: 9:32 PM EST January 6, 2021
NEW HAVEN, Conn. For the sixth time since 2008, the New Haven Police Department will have a new Chief.
Tuesday New Haven Police Chief Otoniel (Tony) Reyes surprised some by announcing that after just under two years in that role, he’s leaving the police department.
Reyes told FOX61 Wednesday he feels as if his two years as Chief felt like a lifetime, given all that’s transpired nationally and locally, with civil unrest and Covid-19. But he says he left nothing in the tank as a member of NHPD for two decades.
I’m a kid that grew up down the street and got a chance to serve his community, Reyes said, referring to his roots in New Haven s Hill neighborhood. ....
