Missouri requests damage assessments following June storms and flooding

MISSOURI − Missouri has requested the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to participate in joint Preliminary Damage Assessments (PDAs) in 17 counties following June s severe storms and flooding. Teams, which are made up of local emergency managers and representatives from the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), will document damage to public infrastructure and estimate recovery costs.  The teams will survey damage from the storms that occurred from June 19 through July 1.  According to the weather station at the Columbia Regional Airport, during that time frame, 13.03 inches of rain fell. “The extremely heavy rains that affected much of Missouri in late June resulted in flash flooding that caused significant and costly damage to roads, bridges, and other public infrastructure,” Gov. Arkansas Embarks On Biggest-Ever Highway Construction Program : CEG

The state of Arkansas embarked on its biggest highway construction program ever undertaken by the Arkansas Department of Transportation, and the people couldn t be more excited. Arkansas is a small state with a population of just three million, but this project touches every corner of the state, with a total of 36 projects in 19 corridors, said Keli Wylie, administrator of the CAP Program and alternative project delivery administrator. The goals of the Connecting Arkansas Program include improving transportation connections between cities; increasing capacity by widening highways to four or more lanes; improving safety; and easing congestion. $56,000 awarded in 13 community grants The Salina Journal The Greater Salina Community Foundation recently awarded  $56,378.90 to 13 charitable projects and organizations in Saline County. This round of grants was made possible by four funds at the community foundation: the Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund, which supports projects and programs that improve the community’s quality of life; the Fund for Early Childhood Care, Education and Development, established by Mark and Jane Berkley to better prepare children in Ottawa and Saline Counties for kindergarten; the Kansas Health Foundation Fund, which supports the public health of Saline County; and the L.P. “Pat” Mullen Fund, which supports hands-on learning opportunities for youth in the areas of arts and humanities and science, technology and invention.
