Man arrested after brief chase and fight with three officers


PENDLETON — A man was arrested on charges of burglary, theft, criminal mischief, escape and resisting arrest on Sunday, May 2, after a brief chase resulted in a fight with police officers that left both the man and an officer with minor injuries, according to a press release from Pendleton Police Chief Charles Byram.
Police on April 26 began investigating a reported burglary that occurred at Highly Active, a tobacco shop in downtown Pendleton on 318 South Main St. Three longboards, each priced at $160, were stolen from the business and a window was smashed, with damages estimated at approximately $1,500, the press release said.
Later, in the early hours of May 2, a police officer recognized a man he knew to be Colten Kee Nez, 31, carrying a longboard in the parking area of The Marigold Hotel on 105 Southeast Court Avenue in Pendleton. Nez fled on foot and left the longboard behind. Police lost Nez, but the longboard was confirmed as one of the three stolen from Highly ....

Woman pleads guilty in case involving death of boyfriend


PENDLETON — A woman was sentenced on Tuesday, April 6, to serve up to nearly 10 years in state prison after pleading guilty in a case that involved the stabbing and killing of her boyfriend at their Milton-Freewater residence in 2019.
Shayla Fawn Record Tsosie, 25, pled guilty to second-degree manslaughter and “no contest” to the unlawful use of a weapon. The plea came as a result of a negotiated settlement, according to court documents.
Record Tsosie was sentenced for the fatal stabbing of Christian Alejandro Rodriguez Cavillo in June 2019. At the time, the two were dating and living together in Milton-Freewater. The couple also had a child together, who was about 19 months old at the time of the incident, according to court documents. ....

Man arrested for attempted murder in Hermiston


HERMISTON — A Hermiston man is being held in the Umatilla County Jail on a charge of attempted murder after police responded to a disturbance at a residence.
Steven Maurice Tompkins, 54, was arrested on Tuesday, April 6, after officers from Hermiston Police Department responded to the 200 block of West Beech Avenue at about 8:30 p.m. to a report of a disturbance involving a knife and a gun, according to Police Chief Jason Edmiston.
Edmiston said when officers arrived they found Tompkins, who lived at the address, actively engaged in a dispute with a 34-year-old male who also lived at the location. He said both parties were initially detained, and through subsequent investigation officers determined Tompkins was the primary aggressor and had been acting extremely erratic, and the other party had what appeared to be defensive wounds. ....
