New Zealand share prices ended weaker on light volume as investors grew pensive about the prospects of inflation and rising bond yields here and around the world.
The S&P/NZX50 index finished at 12,564.21, down 75.85
points, or 0.6 per cent, on volume of 55.64 million shares, worth $201.98 million.
There were 96 falls and 51 rises.
Most of the big name stocks were weaker as concerns about US inflation took hold after US year treasury yields gained for the third day in a row. Local 10-year bond yields were at 1.81 per cent, the upper end of their recent 1.6 to 1.9 per cent band. ....

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Saturday began a nine-day shutdown affecting travel and tourist hotspots in a bid to prevent a surge in Covid-19 cases during the Eidul Fitr holiday.
Already battling a third wave of infections and increasingly nervous about the crisis across the border in India, the government has imposed the most severe restrictions since a one-month lockdown in April last year. “The unfortunate catastrophe unfolding in India has grabbed global headlines. Yesterday there were more than 4 lakh cases in India with 4,194 deaths. Hospital systems have been overwhelmed and oxygen supply run out in many places,” tweeted Asad Umar, who has been leading the government response to the outbreak. ....

Thanks to 13,000 bolts the new water reservoir in Frimley is slowly rising, part of an $82 million upgrade.
Currently, the reservoir is the highest-profile part of Hastings new water infrastructure and will hold eight million litres of treated water.
Work has started on the corner of Southampton St West and Hastings St South in central Hastings, where 10 million litres will be stored. ....
