The Alachua County Public Schools district has launched its free summer meals program.
The free summer meal program began Monday, giving students from babies to age 18 a free breakfast and lunch. Hot meals will be given to children at 93 locations Monday-Thursday.
Caron Rowe, food service specialist, said times can vary so she encourages parents and children to check the website at yourchoicefresh.com.
Multiple pickup options are being provided, such as in-person service, bus stop locations and curbside grab-and-go meals.
Starting Thursday and continuing through the summer the district will also have free grab-and-go distribution at 19 curbside locations from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

James Henderson has worked at Metcalfe Elementary School for 14 years now as a janitor. He said this last year during the pandemic has been a challenge as he’s worked extra hard to clean the school to make sure the students and staff are kept safe from the virus.
Though, that hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed. Second grade student, Immanuel Howard, painted a portrait of Henderson calling him a superhero for his dedication.
“He works very, very, very, hard,” said Howard.
