A 16-year-old who has been supporting her brother and father after her mother s death has been awarded the Isle of Wight High Sheriff Award.
Ryde Academy student Jess Way, was given the award personally by High Sheriff Caroline Peel, as the ceremony wasn t able to go ahead in March.
The school says Jess has had a tough year not only because of the COVID but also because her mum became poorly in the summer, was admitted to hospital and sadly passed away in October. ....

Island youngsters have been recognised for their positives role in their communities - with High Sheriff Awards.
The awards are being given to three Mountbatten Volunteers, who are all under 25.
They are just three of 22 other outstanding winners ,
as previously reported by Isle of Wight Radio, the Island Riding Centre (IRC) said it was thrilled to announce that Angel Passmore was awarded the High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight Award. ....

At Care in the Garden, she presented an award to Steve Double.
Steve was responsible for setting up the Operation Geranium initiative, which gave those alone a geranium plant to nurture during the first lockdown.
In addition to this, he organised postcards by local artists, with a ‘wish you were here’ message on the back, to help people through their isolation.
