Community rallies behind injured Cape student

Gavin Birl, a Cape Henlopen High School student ,was injured in a snowboarding accident earlier this year.
Gavin is the son of Cape grads Damian and Katherine Birl, owners of Smokin D’z Real Pit BBQ in Milton.
Gavin is still going through extensive therapy after the emergency surgery to fuse his spine back together and is currently paralyzed from his chest down.
The Gather and Give for Gavin fundraiser will be held from noon to 6 p.m., Sunday, May 16, at Hudson Fields. The rain date is May 23.
Entertainment and attractions include live music, food trucks, kid-friendly activities and a silent auction. ....

Gather and Give for Gavin: Supporting local teen who was hurt in snowboarding accident

Gavin Birl is the son of the owners of Smokin D’z Real Pit BBQ in Milton.
Because of the accident, Gavin needed surgery and is currently paralyzed from his chest down.
To support Gavin through this tough time, the community is hosting the “Gather and Give for Gavin” Fundraiser at Hudson Fields on May 16.
There will be live music, food trucks, a silent action, a petting zoo, yoga, and more.
We are told by a leader in planning this event that the support so far has been unbelievable.
“It’s very self gratifying that it’s even better to know that we live in such a remarkable giving, loving community, that when someone is in need they all come together and work towards that goal to help these people, it’s amazing,” Kyle Shaffer, Sales and Marketing Manager for Revelation Craft Brewing Company, said. ....
